Do Dogs Grieve?
I am coming to the conclusion that, yes, they do. First, let me tell you a story. Do not go any further if you are upset easily, as it's horrible.
On Tuesday, it was windy, wet and miserable here. The kids were all home and everybody wanted something different for breakfast. I let the dogs out as normal, and went on with getting breakfast ready.
After a few minutes, Ozzie here, was stood at the back door wanting to come back in. I opened the door, and called for Rocco. After a few more minutes, I realised Rocco hadn't come back in so I went outside.
This was when I realised I'd completely failed to notice the wind had been so strong that it had blown the pool gate open. And, although the pool cover looked entirely normal, I knew instantly what had happened.
So, I pulled the pool cover off and found my gorgeous, gorgeous boy lying as if he were asleep, in the deep end of the pool. There was nothing left we could do for him other than dive in and pull him out. And then cry, and cry and cry.
And now, 2 days later, I watch Ozzie lying on the deck looking at the pool, waiting for his very best friend to return to him and I feel broken. And I don't really know what to do with that.
