Speed Trap?

These characters lurking in the bushes at the entrance to our town won't fool anyone close up, but it is hoped that they may slow down speeding drivers from a distance!

I was tempted to tag it as Silly Saturday, except for the fact that there's a very sad reason for them being there.  A 3-year old girl was killed not far from here by a speeding driver and locals have been trying to do as much as possible to prevent it ever happening again.  There's a lovely children's park just across the road and the local school isn't far away, so every deterrent is worth trying.

One deterrent today was the resurfacing of several miles of the road and a 20 mph limit to prevent stones being thrown up.  Isn't it wonderful how a "repair" consists of throwing tar on the road, covering it with tons of small stones and then expecting the traffic to flatten it?  A sweeper lorry made several passes up and down trying to get rid of the excess stones (see Extra) which had piled up at the road edges.  Wonder how many cars will have their paintwork chipped before it all beds in?

Feeling rather grumpy today after a sleepless night with painful hip, grey skies and rain and a disappointing lunch at one of our favourite cafés.  The food was fine, although they didn't have our usual quiche, but the noisy music nearly drove me insane!  May not return!
