Three years ago today we picked up Guinness from the SSPCA shelter in Balerno, drove him home, packed all the other cats in  their cat boxes, drove them all around (my tested method of introducing a new cat, by taking them all out into a neutral territory and then releasing them all together back into familiar territory) for a while, got back home, opened the cat boxes - cats wandered off, one furry black bullet vanished upstairs with a speed of light. For the next two weeks (apart from one wedged-behind-the-kitchen-cupboard incident) Guinness lived behind the sofa and it took weeks before we could even walk past him without him running away scared. But he immediately loved other cats and they taught him that, one, Verticals are rather useful to have as they make food and stuff and two, to speak. Now he demands getting his belly brushed, stroll across pillows in the morning and will happily check what's on your plate. Domestication - completed.
