Ironbridge
A superlative walk amongst the historic industrial buildings along the River Severn in Ironbridge. The spectacular bridge was the first iron bridge in the world, built in 1777-79.
Two questions:
1) Are these cooling towers from the 20th century any less beautiful than the nearby pottery kilns from the 18th century? I think not.
2) Can this former tile factory, once the largest in the world before it closed, be regarded as a superlative, despite the fact that is no longer a tile factory as such? I think not, as it is a former superlative not a current one. On today's walk I was outvoted on that by 3-1. I refused to count the vote "cast" by Bruce, because he was too interested in the pork pie I bought from the world's greatest pork pie shop.. Now, there is a superlative.
