Day 4

Well, I had an unbelievable day today. After setting off from Ostersund this morning we arrived in Jokkmokk after first passing through the Arctic Circle. We travelled up on the Innlandsbannen Express which is a rickety tourist train but it was an amazing experience.  There are only 2 carriages and the journey took 11 hours.  It was not as bad as it sounds though as there are stops along the way at tiny stations where we had chances to stretch our legs, have lunch and visit small museums. The conductor was a tour guide who gave us information about the areas we were passing through.  The definite highlight was when we stopped and went up to the sign to get our photos at the actual Arctic Circle. We also some animals along the way. I didn't see the reindeer (although I did have some at supper time!) but I did see 3 moose along the way which I was delighted about. I did think I saw a lot more animals but it turned out those bears, wolverine and wolves were all either sticks or rocks!
The hotel is in a great location across the road from the most beautiful lake I have ever seen. I was lucky enough to get the best of the light. I got bothered with mosquitos but I also saw an amazing dragonfly. It may have been a damsel fly but it was huge!
It's been a real journey  but I am glad to have made it.
