Bindweed
As by the wood the bindweed rises,
Innocent her flowers shine;
Nature's ripe with cruel surprises.
Parasites wear many guises,
Convolvulus appears divine,
As by the wood the bindweed rises.
False Convolvulus comprises
Angel face and Devil mind,
Nature's ripe with cruel surprises.
Virgin white her bloom disguises
Strangling stem and choking twine;
As by the wood the bindweed rises.
Hedgerow host her heart despises,
Callous creeper looks benign;
Nature's ripe with cruel surprises.
Ditch and dyke she vandalizes,
Deeply rooted devious vine.
As by the wood the bindweed rises,
Nature's ripe with cruel surprises.
