St Dunstan in the Field
This is the ruin of a very old church in the centre if London not far from the Tower. It dates from the 11th century and was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London 1666. It was rebuilt and then had a tower added by Christopher Wren (of St Paul's fame) which is still there. Bad luck continued though, and it was heavily bombed in the London blitz - at which point, enough was enough, and it has been left a ruin. Now it is a very pleasant green space in the midst of buildings - an oasis of calm and peace for those who work nearby.
I had first been to Tate Britain to see an art work made from neon light - quite interesting and cleverly done (extra). The journey today involved a bus from home to Leighton Buzzard, then the train to Euston and the same coming home. I'm not convinced this is the best travel arrangement! OK on a lovely sunny day and good for a change but, on balance, I'll pay the extra parking, plus have much greater flexibility of trains and get back when I want.
