Bugtopia

William and I went for a trip to Bugtopia today with our friends and my God daughter. We had a 'jungle safari' walk through a tropical area with butterflies, birds, frogs and a variety of other insects, watched leaf cutter ants collecting leaves (and learned that they don't eat the leaves but use them to farm a fungus which they do eat) tried to find stick insects (an incredibly tricky task!) and watched the explorers show where we held different creatures. William held a milipead, a tarantula, a cockroach, a scorpion and a giant stick insect. We learned lots of facts about the various bugs, e.g. humans have 10 times as many different species of bacteria living on them compared to cockroaches. When roaches have been handled they have a good wash to clean off the human germs!
