Tail-less Fantail

Blipmate and I drove to Marahau this morning in search of a blip. It  has been a glorious, cloudless day and even though the tide was quite low, it was beautiful there.

At the start of the AbelTasman track, we stopped to try and identify  a little bird flying erratically yet always returning to the same spot. When it settled briefly we could tell the bird was a fantail - but without a tail. No wonder it was flying in an odd manner.

Poor wee thing - perhaps a close encounter with a cat removed his fan. It did look a bit odd but was managing very well, catching insects just above the water and always returning to a nearby large flax.

A big thank you to all those who have left comments, stars and hearts for my whirlpool. I so nearly didn't post it, thinking that no one would be interested in water going down a drain pipe. Now it has found its way onto the Popular page one. Just proves I am no good at judging what is interesting or not.
