Indigo Girls

I worked from home this morning and took this afternoon off so that Andy and I could travel to Brighton.  Andy had brought us tickets to see the Indigo Girls play at Concorde 2 down on the seafront.  It took a couple of hours to get to Brighton in the rush hour but once there we had a meal in a small Japanese restaurant - a fantastic little place buzzing with people and music - before walking along by the sea to see the venue.  We were surprised and sorry to see how derelict the Victorian seafront architecture and balcony gardens had become - fenced off behind wire railings they looked as though they were crumbling away and liable to fall down in places.  There was clearly a group trying to raise money for their restoration but I imagine the cost would be huge.

The Indigo Girls gave a us a performance filled with energy and beautiful tunes and lyrics, some reminding me of my student years and others of more recent times with Andy.  We had a windy walk along the seafront back to the car after the concert but it was invigorating to watch and hear the waves crashing on to the beach in the dark.  A special evening.
