Approaching an impasse
Some of the most scenic and interesting paddling was amongst the floes of sea ice. We were learning how close you could safely get and could see the consequences of getting it wrong as pieces of pack ice sometimes rolled over or broke apart.
Towards the (scheduled) end of the day we encountered a vast mass of ice which made progress southwards impossible. Only a large vessel might have got through. So only one alternative - retrace our path to the known camping site and try a different way tomorrow.
