Cosy Campsite
We slept well last night even though we were on such a busy noisy campsite. We left early and headed towards Antwerp - a known traffic nightmare. The highway was busy but there were no holdups. We soon crossed the border into The Netherlands and spent the rest of the day driving north-east. With no help from Dolly for the driving, I have to make frequent stops, but we go at a pace we enjoy. It was a pleasant drive even with some rain now and then.
We ended up in a lovely little campsite in the forest near the German border, just west of Bad Bentheim (where we'd had such a nightmare last year on our way back to the UK). (Here and here). We stayed in our campervan, of course, but we found this cute little cabin on the site, which could be rented. Most other campers were in tents, campervans and caravans. It was cosy and peaceful, the only noise being the sound of happy children playing in the forest.
We relaxed, went for a couple of walks, and treated ourselves to a delicious dinner sitting outside at the restaurant next door. We started getting used to being a novelty - both because of the English car with the steering wheel on the 'wrong' side, and being the only non Dutch or Germans!
This site will definitely be one to bookmark. Maybe we'll return on the way back!
