If you're ever in Sutton on Sea during the summer, I heartily recommend visiting the Marigold Cottage Garden which opens on Thursday afternoons from May to August, and for the National Garden Scheme one weekend a month in the same period.
Though small, the garden is compact and full of surprises. The gardener, Stephanie, has designed it so that it leads you through gates, arches, down winding paths bordered on all sides by a well chosen selection of plants. Finally, you are welcomed to sit down and take tea and cake. Indoors if inclement weather. The tea is good. No gluten free cakes I'm afraid. But Stephanie will sell you a plant grown from cuttings in the garden should you have seen anything you particularly like.
Len and I liked the sea holly, Eryngium planum, which has beautiful blue stems and leaves. Sadly, all the plants had been sold. Reading about this afterwards, I wonder if it would succeed in our garden. It belongs more to central and southern Europe and our winters can be cold. Stephanie lives by the sea where the temperature is moderated.
Today's photo is a multi exposure featuring a Rudbeckia with a blowsy umbelliferae plant which I can't identify.
