Getting closer to Tal y Fan
This time I took the bus to Rowen. Then walked up to the YHA (where the road is a 1 in 4 gradient). Then along the Roman Road to the Cae Coch cottages. I still had energy despite climbing the steep hill. And so was raring to climb to the summit of Tal y Fan. But was thwarted from doing that by needing to cross styles ( 4 steps) to reach Tal y Fan. So walked back to Rowen via the tarmac road (crossing some farm land. via gates) to have a well earned pint of cider, before catching the bus back to Conwy :-). The height of the styles trigger my vertigo. So makes it impossible to use them. I was disappointed not to reach the summit of Tal y Fan, but did enjoy the walk up to the style and back down again. the Roman Road goes through sheep fields, with gates to negotiate. Which let me be the country girl I am at heart. Ie making sure no sheep were close to the gates, when I needed to go through them. And so opening and closing the gates without letting sheep 'escape' through to the next field or road. It triggered memories of (the joy) being in horse fields. And the skills needed to ensure one could pass through the gate, without letting the equine residents out :-). The extra photos show sheep on the Roman Road part of the walk.
Next Friday I will take a taxi to Cae Coch cottages. Then find a route up to Tal y Fan without the styles (there is a public foot path by the cottages). I am determined to reach the summit of Snowdonia's smallest mountain :- Tal y Fan.
