Female common blue
The second generation of male Common Blues has been out for a while, but in the last few days the females have also emerged. Although the eventually end up a rather more drab brownish colour, freshly hatched individuals have a wonderful sheen of blue scales, and in many ways I think they're more attractive, though less showy, than the males. I spotted this one on a cool and blowy visit to Castor, to survey some areas south of the by-pass. I only had time to take one shot and am amazed that any of it's in focus!
