Bridge O'Ess

Admiring the bridge over the River Tanar (I would have expected it to be the Ess), I spotted this "Inspection stone" a little way away from the bridge. I wonder what it was for.
After that we had a delicious  curry cooked by son M in their tent- see extra. I was impressed- huge amounts of curry and perfect rice.
