Swallows and Amazons

We swam from the east side of Coniston to Piel Island, where Swallows and Amazons is set. As we swam round the island we saw three groups of youngsters and families in canoes, all having the most wonderful time, yelling and shouting with glee. The rain came as we finished our swim and the lake looked very atmospheric in the late morning light; I passed this spot again this evening and the water was blue and peaceful in a brief period of evening sunshine.
