Ready!

I spent a good part of today at WeSnip (Whatcom Educational Spay/Neuter Impact Program) getting ready for the big garage sale this weekend.  This is the organization I do volunteer work for.   I think it's a misnomer to call it a garage sale because it's nothing like any garage sale I've ever seen.   There's a sale roughly every six weeks and the time between sales is spent sorting incoming donations, cleaning items, pricing and preparing displays.  Each team lead is responsible for a particular section.  Mine is picture frames. The sections range from jewelry to vintage/collectibles, kitchen, linens, books, etc.  If you were a young, just-married couple or a college student looking to outfit your house or apartment with necessary items, you could most likely do it here for under $50.  Many of the things donated are brand new.  This has become quite a big event in our community.  All the proceeds (probably between $20-25,000) go to helping control the feral cat population by catching them, transporting them to a local vet for spaying or neutering and then finding homes for them.  They also provide assistance to folks who might need a little help with those services for their pets.  WeSnip has reduced the homeless/feral cat population in our area by a significant number and drastically decreased the number of animals euthanized in local shelters.   We are all very proud of that.  It's the best possible reward for a lot of effort and hard work.
