Brian's Screws

Despite being up early for the sunrise today's image is of a very small amount of Brian's screws.

Brian was my father-in-law. A wonderful man; a gentle man. Sadly he died last year after a short illness. It was a shock to us all, particularly his wife, Ann, and his daughters, as well as the rest of the family.

He was a fit and healthy 75 year old, or at least we thought so until he started having stomach pain. He was stoic and never complained but as the symptoms didn't clear up, the seriousness of his condition came to light. He died a few short months later, cancer eating away from within. A sad loss to us all.

Today would have been their 50th Wedding Anniversary. I'm not sure quite why it happened as it did but we ended up clearing out his garage and the loft of the accumulated belongings of is life. He worked with his hands all of his life. He had a hard upbringing, with very little in the way of possessions. Perhaps this is why he always kept things, just in case.

Anyway 8 hours of work resulted in more than a tonne of metal, mainly screws and nails, being put into a trailer to go to the scrap yard and a skip full to overflowing with other belongings.

And don't think for a second that the garage and loft are now empty!

Brian we miss you. And particularly on this day we wish you were still with us so we could have celebratd your special anniversay.
