The Noreen and Kenneth Murray Library

Our first port of call on Doors Open Day, this innovative building provides multiple areas for study over four floors, with a south-facing terrace for fine days and superb views in all directions.

Next destination was the RCAHMS (Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland) which holds a vast amount of information in the form of books, photographs and plans, freely available to anyone with a curious mind.

Leaving Mr Flum to continue Opening Doors, I joined S and her family to see 'I Dreamed A Dream' at the Festival Theatre, the story of the rise to fame of Susan Boyle and her subsequent nervousness before a live performance.

We were preparing to leave after the last curtain-call when, to the astonishment of the entire audience, Susan Boyle herself walked onstage and sang I Dreamed A Dream and another song for us. Unsurprisingly she received a standing ovation.
