Thrush Patterns

First the start of a Ted Hughes poem, "Thrushes"...

Terrifying are the attent sleek thrushes on the lawn,
More coiled steel than living - a poised
Dark deadly eye, those delicate legs
Triggered to stirrings beyond sense - with a start, a bounce,
a stab
Overtake the instant and drag out some writhing thing.

This poem shows the thrush as somewhat single minded and simple-minded, and also as a ruthless hunter. Those initial characteristics may explain how it flew headlong into our window, while the latter one may temper sympathy.
For as you've probably worked out now the only way I can photograph that beautiful pattern so closely is on a corpse!
The whole bird can be seen in my extra, placed nicely upon the grass with flowers by its head. But I realise such pictures are not for everyone which is why its an extra!
PS This is a back blip. Today's Blip (3 August) is here!
