Minstrels' Gallery Lounge

I had lunch today at the “Tyrrells Ford Country Inn and Hotel”.

This view is of the Minstrels' Gallery lounge with its fine staircase and splendid barley twist balusters.

The name Tyrrell referred to, is the Anglo Norman nobleman, Sir Walter Tyrrell who, while out hunting stag, shot an arrow which glanced off an oak tree and killed King William II or William Rufus. The Rufus Stone commemorating this event is nearby.

This incident occurred on 2 August 1100.

Pity I was not there yesterday, as today is the 3rd.
