Greenham Common

Another back blip following my vacation break
An overnight stay in Newbury led me to visit what remains of USAF Greenham Common scene of the infamous peace camp and the forward base for US nuclear cruise missiles. When it closed they returned it to a heathland nature reserve the runway WS ripped up and used as hardcore for the Newbury bypass!!. Only they left a few bits behind including the fire training plane, control tower and those menacing bunkers. The other extra is one of the few remaining runway lights to be found in the undergrowth. All rather fitting for Derelict August I think.

Well worth a visit for the wildlife and the history
