An interesting pub
I was in Manchester yesterday to try out Randall & Aubin's seafood restaurant with a friend. Neither of us had been there before and it was very nice - albeit a little expensive, but then perhaps we shouldn't have started with cocktails ;-)
After the restaurant we went to a nearby pub - one which my friend had discovered on a conducted walk around that part of Manchester. You would walk past this pub (which I must of done many times) without even noticing it! It is just a door from which you descent down a flight of stairs into a Victorian basement! The interesting bit is that it used to be Manchester & Salford Children's Mission building and the fabric of the building hasn't changed - Victorian glazed brick walls and very little in the way of decoration other than some old photographs.
After the Gas Lamp we went to what is now the Grand Pacific - it used to be the Reform Club - and drank rather too much Pinot Grigio. After that it was time to get the tram, and train, back home :-)
