Medlock Ames Vineyards

A beautiful day in God's Country today. It was very cold last night but dawned sunny and cloudless. Oilman planted thirty two plants next to the barn and I planted five plants in a planter. Ozzie fetched sticks and I fetched rocks--we both had our noses to the ground or in the bushes, he looking for gophers and I looking for perfectly shaped rocks to carefully hand place around the garden. Oilman and I have become rock gleaners, stopping the car to pick up rocks from the side of the road, dragging bags of rocks (disguised as bottles of wine) up from the river, poking around in bushes for rocks.

About a year ago we visited the tasting room of a winery called Medlock Ames. It was recommended to us because they have a nice garden. When we walked in we fell in love with the whole place and the people. As we were tasting the wine and chatting with the personable young man pouring for us, OilMan suddenly said (looking around) "we could LIVE here..." I agreed. Perhaps that delightful place will be the subject of another blip.

We joined their wine club, which means that every four months we get a case of wine and they have a pick-up party at their vineyard/farm. They are committed to sustainable growing practices and their parties are designed to showcase this in one way or another. They have wonderful music, usually provided by talented wine club members good food from their garden and a lovely place to hang out and relax.

Today they had a Farmer's market with veggies from their extensive gardens, sauces and jams made with the veggies, , olive oil from their olive trees, and cheeses made by the Pt Reyes Cheese Company. We remembered to pick up our wine (and they remembered us!) and we reluctantly headed for home, stopping on the way out to pick up a pile of excellent stones.
