A Porty Folio

Oliver & Boyd Printers, Tweedale Court, Edinburgh

Thomas Oliver and George Boyd founded their printing company, one of many in Edinburgh, in 1807. Just off the Royal Mile (they moved to these larger premises in 1820), this winch for lifting paper (the letters 'O' and 'B' can be seen in the top left corner of the winch) still adorns one of the windows.

If you're on the Royal Mile, it's worth nipping down this attractive close to see the signs of a key part of Edinburgh's history.
