Glacier 3000 run.

If you think I have a pained expression on my face, you'd be right! Undoubtedly the hardest running challenge I have ever had. The run was only 26.2 kms, but reached a height of 3000 metres (or almost 10,000 feet in old money), with the majority of the climb in the last 6 kms. My game plan was to run the first 16 km very easy and then just 'gut it out' for the final 10 kms. I did start out easy, but it didn't feel too easy because of the heat, which I never tolerate well. I was really pleased to see GravyC and the boys at the feed station in Ruesch (15.6km) - especially as they had water without salt in (must be some
weird Swiss thing!) Soon after this the climb became incredibly steep and I quickly realised that altitude would take more of a toll than I'd bargained for. The climb up to 20km was incredibly hard, and the only comfort was that everyone around me was moving at the same slow pace. At the feed station I realised that Coca Cola has previously undiscovered properties, and from then on I bathed my teeth in 2 cups of it every kilometre. It had a miraculous effect, and I made it to the end via the Glacier on Scex Rouge and the cruel set of steps up to the finish. I was almost on my hands and knees until I realised that GravyC and my boys were at the top!

It took 3 cable cars and a car drive to take us back down to Gstaad.
