Summer is flying by...
I can't believe we are already into August - where has the summer (or for that matter the year) gone? Last week there were at least a dozen Hummingbird Clearwing and Snowberry Clearwing moths in the garden; today I saw only 3. And that made me think that, as tempting as it was to blip another hummingbird (the bird), I'd go with the clearwing moth today. It's not tack-sharp, but I like it well enough.
Kura and I had a wonderful time together. When she got here yesterday, we sat on the patio being buzzed by hummingbirds, drinking blood-orange mimosas and just enjoying ourselves. Eventually it got chilly and we moved inside to have our traditional game of Mexican Train Dominoes. After we'd been inside maybe an hour, I glanced out ...and saw an enormous bear sitting his fuzzy black butt right on the patio while he gave his privates some attention. Kura and I roared out onto the deck, air-horn in hand, and blasted him off the patio and into the woods. I have to say that he's one of the largest bears I've seen in our garden - I'd put him at 400 pounds, minimum. Really hoping he doesn't come back.
After a fun morning, Kura had to head home to NYC, so I went to visit MIL briefly. Then home to potter in the garden, tend to the Monarch Nursery, and tidy up. (Keeping a sharp eye out for bears while in the garden!)
Hubs and SIL got about 5 miles behind a terrible accident on I-81 in Virginia where they sat for several hours. They now don't expect to get here until around 8:30 or so tonight. Be glad when they are safely here on the Lane. I've put gates up on the stairs to keep the dog from getting upstairs; thus hopefully giving the cats a safe-haven. I expect my orderly life is about to get turned upside down for a while.
Thanks for stopping by...
