Eyes on the Prize
After admiring a blipfriend's ( janeanne) photos for years, I've been inspired to finally have a go at using a really narrow DOF to try to ' tell a story ' in one picture...........she has mastered the art of this style brilliantly, to occasionally portray in her journal what her lovely family has been doing.
After a few attempts at her style over the years, I've never produced anything that I was willing to show in public, but never wanting to be beaten, I had another go at it today...........as you can see I still need rather a lot of practice to reach jane's standard, but it's an area of photography that I would like to explore further as it's so very different to how I normally take photos ...........I've always used a zoom lens and usually quite a long one at that but this effect is best achieved with a short prime lens and the method of composing the shot is very different..........anyway, I'll stop blathering on about it now as I'm sure you knew all that already and I'll just tell you how the shot evolved :-)
I was sitting on the bench in the garden with Boo laying on the table in front of me ........I was taking some close up shots of his face when he suddenly hung over the edge of the table and started ' chattering ' ( cat owners will know what I mean), I glanced down, saw the butterfly on the bench and tried to get both of them in shot.......I couldn't quite do it how I wanted it but I fired off a burst of shots just as Boo made a dive for his quarry........he missed as usual but that doesn't stop him trying again :-))
