Office Bureau
Today we visited Bletchley Park - the secret 2nd World War codebreaking centre in Buckinghamshire, responsible for deciphering intercepted German communications. Their work is thought to have contributed to reducing the length of the war by as much as two years - a good result whichever side you were on.
There is a great deal to see at this museum, with well displayed and informative exhibits, movies and sound tracks to explain how the work was carried out, to explain some of the technology involved, and to reveal the hardships of living and working in such a demanding - but very secretive - environment.
The entry ticket is valid for a whole year, which is good because we actually went to the museum to meet up with some friends whom we haven't seen for quite a while. The extended entry ticket meant that we were under no pressure to see all the exhibits in one visit (a pretty demanding target) and had plenty of time to sit and chat over lunch in the lovely sunshine. We will return to see more of the exhibits in the coming months.
Today's blip shows a bureau in one of the offices in the main house, set up as it would have been during the war.
