Lake Maggiore, Italy (Backblip)
We spent a couple of days at the Italian Lakes and stayed at Lake Maggiore during our trip- this photo is taken from Isola Bella which is one of the three small Borromean Islands in the lake and is looking back to one edge of the lake. The other edge of the lake is really beautiful and bordered by high mountains. Unfortunatley the big black spot that appeared in my new compact camera was right in the middle of all those shots - arrrrgggg!
Isola Bella was transformed by Charles Borromeo in 1630 from a small rocky crag into a place with incredible gardens and a 4 story magnificent Baroque Palace. The descendants of the original family still own the island and were in residence in the palace on the fourth floor when we were there. We were still able to view all the other floors which were stunning - so much wealth!
