The Ostrich
In the early days of the previous century, Oudtshoorn used to be the ostrich capital of the world.
It is situated in the Klein Karoo, part of Kannaland, and is known for extreme summer and winter temperatures. It is an area with many farming communities and small towns with an old fashioned country charm.
Inland from Oudtshoorn lies the majestic Swartberg Mountain range. The well known Cango Caves are found in the foothills of these mountains.
There are still many ostrich farms, and nowadays, apart from the tourist industry, ostrich meat seems to become more popular.
This inquisitive fellow was blipped about 5 km's outside of Oudsthoorn on the road to Mossel Bay .
Would give a tooth for those lashes!
