Boat - Ijmuiden - Groningen

Arrived in IJmuiden this morning (without Pieter) but was greeted with a nice sunrise.

After getting off the boat I decided to drive home via the Afsluitdijk (wikipedia info), which is a great 32 km long dyke (it's name is actually closing dyke when translated) which turned the South Sea into the Ijsselmeer (wikipedia info).

Because it has been really cold in the Netherlands for the past days this giant lake is actually partially frozen now. At the edges there are amazing great chunks of ice (size indication), which are created by the rest of the lake pushing the ice and breaking it.

A bit after where I took these photo's there were even people skating on the lake (as there are in many other places!).

Also backblipped yesterday as I had not internet on the ferry.
