is this the way...
...to (t)Amarillo?
And not a hybrid as I had always thought between perhaps...a tomato and a plum? tomato and a nectarine?
They are a tree tomato native to Peru and Brazil and from the same family as tomatoes, capsicum, potatoes, eggplant and deadly nightshade.
Now commercially grown in New Zealand and with cook books dedicated to the poaching, baking, frying, baking and chutneying of the tamarillo, Kiwi growers found the name 'tree tomato' not hugely enticing and came up with a new name...perhaps from the word tomatillo the diminutive form of the Spanish 'tomate'.
Anyone for tamarillo ceviche?
And vale Glenn Campbell.
