The writings on the wall
Graffiti dates back millennia. I recall seeing some in Rome dating back to pre Christian times. It records a period in time, reflecting angst, passion, yearning, cries to be heard. It is an anonymous voice, representing someone who feels as though they are a consumer rather than a creator of their own history. Today, in N Ireland, we are "re-imaging" old para military wall drawings as they are part of a history which many want to forget or even re-invent. Banksy has brought wall art to new levels, and yet the amateur scribbler still calls out to be heard. Listening is a skill, an art. It's much easier to talk, present our own views passing them off as fact. So, a small plea to create space to try and tune in to the voice of the voiceless, less they be passed by.
