Stronaba

This afternoon Mhairi's Mum had some concern about the private water supply over at the croft and asked me to have a wee check.

The quality of the water is superb and Stronaba is one of the few places you can really enjoy a cup of tea. Despite this such supplies can be fickle and ironically enough most problems occur after a period of prolonged or heavy rain.

In truth, given a choice I would pay a little more in rates (council tax) and take water from the main. It is all the more frustrating then that Scottish Water have spent millions on water treatment and distribution with a huge service reservoir less than a mile from here and the Stronaba township remains dependant upon on a series of individual private abstraction arrangements from springs and burns on that side of the Stronaba hill.

I would add that the croft water is filtered and UV treated before arriving at the kitchen tap.

Anyway, up at the spring a few wee twigs were removed, valves opened and closed, and everything seemed fine with the tank topping up nicely. I left it a while and strolled a little further up the hill. The height gain is modest but the view improves greatly from the one at the A82 roadside below.

This is looking north across the Great Glen trench and you can just make out (behind the branches) Meall na Teanga one of the Loch Lochy Munros.
