inspired by September
There is an 'r' in the month now and, following the frost of yesterday, it feels like time to start moving shrubs and trees. We must not be tempted to plant them too close at this stage and we don't want to spoil the view of the hills, so it's time to stick in the canes and try out different positions. We successfully moved the young damson tree that we bought in the Spring and were pleasantly surprised by its root system. I hope it can cope with the shock.
We have also found a place for a small yew seedling that we brought with us from Turriff. It will be some time before we cantrim it into any such exotic shapes as can be seen just along the road at Levens Hall. I think we might have to leave that to the next generation!
