VW Bulli

After yesterdays high society day out, this morning brought us back down to earth. A night spent in a tent on a stubble field with no mattress or anything more than the clothes I had on. No washing gear, no running water but from somewhere in the VW bus we managed a cup of tea. I think I has spent the night with Ron in the tent and the others were piled in the bus. That's my version at least and the lower picture tends to support that - I am on the right, Ron on the left.

The VW bus known commonly in Germany as "Bulli" was bought by Rick and Ron in Holland and was probably once a police vehicle. No doubt they sold it for next to nothing when they returned to Australia after their year of Europe. Something they would regret today. The things cost a fortune.

We must have somehow managed to get respectable, picked up my car in Southampton and then as part of the Aussie Tour, visited Salisbury and Stonehenge before all returning to Kensington. Rick and Ron liked to park in our posh Court rather than the notorious surroundings of the Antipodean enclave down the road in Earls Court.

No idea what we did with the two girls. They disappeared as mysteriously as they had arrived. In the top photo:
Kim on the left door, Ron upper right and Rick on the right door.
To be honest I can't be sure if Ron was Rick or vice versa.

PS After posting and reviewing the photo again saw the flared jeans. But I wasn't a fashion type - this was the age of  Bay City Rollers, Abba, Tartan Army, Skinheads ......
