My first encounter with Ganesh

Teaching in the Antwerp British School has given me some insight in a religion that was completely new to me. A large part of our students have an Indian background and this weekend most of them celebrated the Ganesh festival. Today saw the procession to the river Schelde where Ganesh would be submerged in the river water.

It was beautiful, festive and colourful. Delicious food was shared amongst the festival goers and the passersby. The only spanner in the works was the very cold wind and the thunderstorm... Autumn in Belgium.
