The big tank on the side of the new secondhand dishwasher is apparently used as rinsewater for a subsequent cycle if its turbidity is sufficiently low. More to the point, it didn't leak all over the car on the way over from its previous owner (whose name I didn't recognise but who recognised me from work). The connection took some work to get pipes and tubes out of confined spaces and the squidging it into the space too more as it has different fitting-points to the old one but it was eventually installed and has so far not dribbled any water on the floor.
