Rose hips not tomatoes

There seem to be loads of hips on the rugosa roses this year. They look a wee bit like cherry tomatoes.
Not sure if I want to make rose hip jam since I do not really care for it on toast.
Leaving the hips through Autumn and Winter is great for the birds. They are pecking into them already. I think I will let them have it on their toast.
