Road closed
A metaphor for the whole of central Edinburgh in the month of August, to be honest. Luckily all of the remaining events we are going to involve using the 36 to get up to the west end of town, and avoiding the nightmare that is Leith Street.
My cold is back with a vengeance. I spent most of the day sitting and coughing, before we headed out for a play at the Traverse (Letters to Morrissey - a lovely single-hander, although with multiple characters in play). Unfortunately our second play was cancelled (Nina), and there's no chance of getting tickets later in the run to see it as it is completely sold out. I downloaded the Fringe app onto the phone as we waited, to look for an alternative in the reasonably close vicinity, and we found it in the form of Cirkopolis, a pretty straightforward tumbling/physical theatre number at the EICC, so we headed off there after a quick dinner at Zucca. It took a little while to warm up, but once it became clear that it was the women gymnasts who were the stars of the show it rapidly picked up. All good fun, and wildly appreciated by the audience. It was lucky that there were some taxis sitting outside as by that stage I was close to collapse. Back home, straight to bed.
