Today's the day .......................... to stop the clock
This is the famous 'Brief Encounter' clock - the one in the famous film - at the top of the underpass on to the platform where much of the action takes place.
It has been stuck at a quarter to eight for several months now - and there don't seem to be any plans in place to get its hand moving again. There's nothing wrong with it, you understand, apart from the fact that it needs winding up. And getting in the way of that seems to be a lot of hurt male pride. There has been a major dispute between two parties - and although I have tried to ascertain what happened, I still don't quite fully understand it.
Someone is refusing to wind up the clock - or let anyone else do it. The result is a complete stalemate and everyone deprived of an iconic symbol of a by-gone time ..........................
