Any Excuse!

River Petterill  (10)

As the Petterill River runs alongside the Beer Garden at the Sun Inn in Newton Reigny and looks quite pretty as it glides past through the trees, I felt I needed to make a visit. And really I couldn’t just go into the garden and take a photo and go away again, could I! So we had Sunday lunch and rather good it was as well.

The river here skirts the northern edge of the village. There is a road bridge and a footbridge. Then, almost immediately, the river turns north and heads for Carlisle.

But  . . . before we follow it north, we are going to take a little diversion, as something very interesting happens at Penrith. So interesting that this was one of the reasons I wanted to look more closely at this river in the first place. I will need some help with this bit, so watch this space.
