The flow
My wife and I just read a great book by Thomas Friedman, Thank You For Being Late.
Friedman talks about understanding that the planet's three largest forces -- Moore's law (technology), the market (globalization) and Mother Nature (climate change and biodiversity loss) -- are accelerating all at once. Our lives are being transformed in so many ways all at once--and it is overwhelming.
Friedman says that we should go with the flow and purposely "be late" -- we should pause to appreciate the amazing historical period we're passing through and to reflect on its possibilities and dangers. We can better cope if we dare to be late and use the time to reimagine work, politics, and community.
