Map Weevil
The Map Weevil Mogulones geographicus is a very local species that is associated with Viper's Bugloss. It occurs at scattered locations in south-east England, where the food plant is plentiful. It main centres of distribution are in the sandy Breckland of Suffolk and Norfolk and along the coasts of Kent and Sussex.
This individual came from the rail-side land at Conington, where there is a very large population of Viper's Bugloss, and was photographed in the garden. The weevil is only a few millimetres in length, but when it's seen at high magnification , is really rather stunning!
