Same but different

Another day, another jazz venue. From a 5,000-seat tent in Marciac to someone's back garden in Thézan; I took this photo without moving from my seat.

We met Monica at C's open studio a month or so ago; I'd vaguely heard about the summer "jazz garden", and it turned out that she is the person responsible. So I had a look at the upcoming concerts and booked this one. They have quite a large garden, and they filled it with tables and chairs for about 80 people. Oddly nearly everyone seemed to be British, or at least English-speaking, and despite being so close to home we hardly recognised any of them. Maybe they were tourists? Monica's British, but she's married to a Marseillais and has lived in France for 30 years.

Anyway, for 20 euros you get a jazz concert plus a home-cooked meal. And the food was unusual: vegetarian (!) curry (!!). Goodness knows where they managed to find okra around here. Followed by cheese and then plum compote with home-made shortbread, all washed down with local wine.

The music wasn't half bad either: Jazzador, an international quartet of guitar, saxophone, drums and double bass. They played a varied programme of swing, funk, tango, and a bit of "soundscape" inspired by Jan Garbarek. Have a listen. We're delighted to have found this lovely venue only a 15-minute drive from home; we really are spoilt for cultural events around here.

PS if I could pick three days to not have Internet access, I would have picked the three we were in Marciac -- we managed to miss all of the weekend horribleness. Threatening nuclear war on Twitter is bad enough, but I'm left speechless over events in Charlottesville.
