Happiness is not having a leccy bill for £4000

When back in Uist, in the post was a nice little missive from EDF - indeed several missives - pointing out that our next electricity bill in France was for 3947.66 euros and they hoped we would pay it soon and if not, then our supply would be cut off with a horrendous charge to get reconnected. Depressing stuff.
We hadn't had the meter read for a long time and I had just sent in a reading so it could have been possible?! After the day travelling from Dunfermline Travelodge to Edinburgh Airport to Marseille Airport to Sablieres, DS#2 and his newish partner - henceforth called CC - were on hand to help try and work out what the story was.
The photo gives it away when one observes the number on the display - which was what I had submitted as my reading - is printed on the meter below, which seemed unlikely if it was the real reading. Pressing various buttons gets up other numbers including what we hope is the real reading. I had submitted what was effectively the registration number of the meter - I hope.
"My bad" as DS#2 would say. Fingers crossed that things can be resolved on the phone tomorrow.
