Above And Beyond...

Hackpen Hill

Yesterday afternoon we travelled to stay the night with our friends who live in The Cotswold Water Park, Gloucestershire, and after breakfast we set off to do a walk from Hackpen Hill to Avebury Stones, Wiltshire,

The blipfoto shows an aerial view of The Hinton White Horse on Hackpen Hill.

At Hackpen Hill on The Ridgeway Walk, on the edge of The Marlborough Downs  is one of the white chalk horses. It is one of nine white horse hill figures located in Wiltshire. It is also known as the Broad Hinton White Horse due to its near location to Broad Hinton. Supposedly cut by local parish clerk Henry Eatwell in 1838 to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Victoria, the horse is 90' square feet and is said to be best viewed from B4041 road. The horse is regularly scoured and maintained.

On the return from Avebury I was fortunate to capture a deer jumping through a wheat field (see extra) which was lovely to see.

The total walk was 11 miles. After getting back to our friends house we had a meal at their local pub in South Cerney before travelling home. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed!
