Most visitors to Skopelos Island feel that at some point during their stay they really should go and pay homage to the little church of St John on the rock which is now sadly pinpointed on Google maps as “Mamma Mia cliff”. When we are hosting friends or family we go with them so we can point out the scarecrows and the crazy driveway en route. Then, to complete the whistle-stop 'See all the best bits in a single day tour' we drive them over the mountain road through the forest, call in at Skopelos Town, have a quick squizz at Drakontoschisma before stopping for a leisurely lunch in the sweet little fishing village of Agnondas (to which I will have to add a link later because I have not blipped it ever before).

But that is all the mainstream stuff anybody would find in a guidebook. We have a couple of places that may well be overlooked because, well, some places market themselves more aggressively. So we avoid the upmarket restaurant with the over-priced wine and the damask tablecloths which claims to have the best view because the view from this bar is just so much better. We come for just one beer though, just to show off the view, because our loyalty is not with this outfit either.

Edited to add Agnondas link
